Aaqib Javed Named Sri Lanka’s Fast-Bowling Coach

Former Pakistani fast bowler Aaqib Javed has been appointed as Sri Lanka’s fast-bowling coach ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA. Javed’s tenure in this role will extend until the conclusion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Aaqib Javed, aged 51, brings a wealth of coaching experience to his new position. Notably, he served as the head coach of Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) since 2017. Under his guidance, the team clinched consecutive titles in 2022 and 2023. However, their performance this year was disappointing, with only one victory and a bottom-place finish.

Additionally, Javed has held coaching roles with the Pakistan national team, including serving as the bowling coach during their successful T20 World Cup campaign in 2009. He also contributed to the UAE cricket team’s growth, leading them as head coach during their period of achieving ODI status and qualifying for the 2015 World Cup. Furthermore, he led Pakistan’s Under-19 team to victory in the 2004 World Cup.

During his playing career, Aaqib Javed represented Pakistan in 163 ODIs and 22 Test matches from 1988 to 1998. He was part of the squad that secured the 1992 World Cup title. Showcasing his expertise and experience in the highest echelons of cricket.
