In a thrilling Pakistan Super League (PSL) encounter on Sunday (March 3), Multan Sultans’ rising young wrist-spinner, Usama Mir, showcased his talent and potential by dismissing Karachi Kings’ skipper Shan Masood with a terrific delivery.

Usama Mir deceived Masood, the seasoned left-handed batter, who had settled well with 36 runs off 28 deliveries, with a sharp leg cutter. The delivery turned sharply towards the left-hander and forcefully crashed into his middle stump. Masood, attempting an extravagant slog sweep towards the on-side, missed the delivery entirely, leading to the jubilant celebrations from Mir.
The pivotal wicket fell in the ninth over of Karachi Kings’ run chase, with Masood’s departure significantly impacting the team’s fortunes. Despite Masood’s efforts in reviving Kings’ innings alongside Shoaib Malik (38), his dismissal marked a turning point as the Kings faltered to 169/7 after reaching 75/2 earlier.
Mir’s match winning spell of 2 for 29 off his 4 overs highlighted his potential and promise for Multan Sultans in the PSL and potentially for Pakistan at the international level. With 15 scalps in just seven innings, the 28 year old now leads the charts as the top wicket-taker of PSL 2024, further solidifying his stature as a rising star in Pakistani cricket.
