BCCI Requires Player Involvement in Upcoming Ranji Trophy Fixtures

In a proactive move to address player idleness concerns before the IPL, the BCCI mandates player participation in state teams. The directive applies to those not in the national squad or undergoing NCA rehabilitation. Effective immediately, players must join their state teams for the upcoming Ranji Trophy matches starting on February 16.

This directive is particularly significant for players like Ishan Kishan, who has opted for IPL preparations over competitive cricket. Currently training in Baroda, Kishan is slated to represent his home state, Jharkhand, against Rajasthan.

However, the BCCI’s ruling extends beyond Kishan, impacting other players such as Krunal Pandya and Deepak Chahar, who have been inactive in Ranji Trophy matches. It also applies to individuals like Shreyas Iyer, who find themselves excluded from the national team due to poor form.

A BCCI official emphasized the necessity for players to prioritize domestic cricket commitments, irrespective of international or IPL engagements. The decision aims to instill discipline and ensure player availability for state teams.

Ishan Kishan’s prolonged absence from competitive cricket has raised concerns within Indian cricket circles. Despite criticism, Kishan remains steadfast in his decision to focus on IPL preparations.

Stay tuned for more updates on the BCCI’s measures to enhance player discipline and commitment to domestic cricket.
