Recent revelations shed light on the initial contracts of football icons Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, showcasing notable divergences in their early earnings.

Ronaldo, commencing his career at Sporting CP, secured his first professional contract, reportedly earning £ 860,000 annually. His subsequent move to Manchester United saw a significant pay rise, with his yearly salary doubling to £1.8 million.

In contrast, Messi’s journey began in Barcelona’s youth system, where he earned a modest £516 per month. Upon signing his professional contract in 2004, Messi’s earnings soared to £2.6 million annually. His eight year deal initially included a buyout clause of €30 million, escalating to €80 million upon his debut for Barcelona B.

The trajectories of both players sky rocketed as they ascended to football superstardom, accumulating numerous Ballon d’Or awards and Champions League titles. Ronaldo’s illustrious career includes stints at Real Madrid, Juventus, and Manchester United, with his current venture at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia commanding a staggering £175 million over three years.

Meanwhile, Messi’s enduring legacy at Barcelona, marked by prolific goal scoring and trophy laden seasons, transitioned to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021 before his recent move to Inter Miami in the MLS, where he reportedly earns £43 million annually.

Despite their disparate beginnings, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s indelible impact on the football landscape remains unparalleled, cementing their status as two of the sport’s greatest luminaries.
