Star Indian batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have each dropped one spot in the most recent ICC Test Rankings. Kohli, absent from the first two Test matches against England, now sits at seventh place, down from sixth. Meanwhile, Sharma’s performance in the Vizag Test, where he scored 27 runs in two innings, sees him slide from 12th to 13th position.
England’s Harry Brook has also withdrawn from the ongoing India vs England series, resulting in his drop from seventh to eighth position. However, Usman Khawaja has climbed in the rankings, surpassing Kohli and Brook to claim the sixth position.
In contrast, young Indian batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have made significant gains in the latest rankings. Jaiswal has soared 37 spots to reach 29th position, achieving a career-best rating of 632 points after his match-winning double hundred in Vizag. Gill has ascended 14 positions to secure 38th place, boosted by his century in the second innings, reaching a career-high tally of 578 rating points.
Furthermore, alongside Kohli and Sharma, several other Indian players have witnessed drops in the ICC Test Rankings. Shreyas Iyer slips from 48th to 50th position, while Axar Patel falls from 50th to 51st despite his notable batting performances against England. Veteran batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have also declined to 37th and 47th positions, respectively, after being excluded from the Test squad. Ravindra Jadeja’s absence from the Vizag Test sees him drop from 39th to 42nd place in the ICC Test Rankings for batsmen.
