Jack Miller’s Take on Sprint Races and the Demands of the MotoGP Season
Jack Miller, entering his second year with KTM, faces increased pressure in 2024 with the emergence of promising talents like Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernandez. Despite acknowledging the need for a strong performance, he remains motivated by the demanding schedule that keeps him on the track.
Reflecting on his past season with KTM, Miller gave himself a modest rating of five out of ten in an interview with Motosan. While acknowledging the team’s achievements, he expressed the typical racer’s desire for more victories. He cited instances like Jerez and Portimao where he performed well, but lamented falls and other mistakes that affected his overall performance, hence the moderate self-appraisal.
Addressing the divisive sprint race format introduced last season, Miller stood among the riders who embraced it. He capitalized on this format in various instances, finding it advantageous.
When discussing the intensified demands of the MotoGP schedule, Miller was resolute: “I’m paid to ride these bikes 44 times a year. I’m not here to spend the season lounging on my couch; I’m here to ride. The more races, the faster the year flies by. It minimizes free time for other activities like cycling or relaxing in Andorra, which can get mundane for us foreigners. Brad is great, but he’s not family.”
Miller’s determination and acceptance of the rigorous racing schedule exemplify his dedication to the sport and the commitment required to thrive in MotoGP.
