“Formula 1 is all-consuming, and I’ve been at it for a long time now,” Newey shared with Sky Sports F1. “2021 was really busy year, and at some point, I just felt need to step back and take a break.”
Regarding his decision-making process, Newey admitted, “I’ve been thinking about it for a while now. Over the winter, and as events unfolded this year, I realized it was time for a change. I work because I enjoy it, and it felt like the right moment to pause and reassess.”

Newey plans to use his time away from the track to enjoy life with his wife and dogs, possibly embarking on a travel adventure. As for his future plans, he remains open to possibilities, stating, “Right now, there is no plan. I’ll take things as they come and see where life takes me.”
Responding to Lewis Hamilton’s praise of his work, Newey expressed gratitude, saying, “It’s very kind of Lewis to say that. At the moment, I’m simply focused on taking a break and seeing what the future holds.”
