Brembo, the renowned Italian brake manufacturer, has announced its acquisition of Ohlins Racing in a deal valued at $405 million (£310 million). The agreement marks a significant union between two iconic brands known for their high-performance products in the motorsport industry.
In a statement, Brembo emphasized that this partnership will blend their storied histories and commitment to excellence in performance, style, and racing success. The collaboration spans various motorsport disciplines, including Formula One, MotoGP, NASCAR, and downhill mountain biking, reflecting both companies’ prestigious reputations.
Ohlins is a prominent name in the MotoGP World Championship, supplying suspension systems to four of the five major manufacturers: Ducati, Aprilia, Honda, and Yamaha. In contrast, Brembo provides braking systems for all five manufacturers, with KTM being the exception as it uses WP, a subsidiary of KTM, for its RC16 suspension.
“Öhlins is a strong fit for Brembo,” stated Matteo Tiraboschi, Brembo’s executive chairman. “It is a world-renowned brand with a solid business and an unrivaled reputation, both on the racetrack and the road. We welcome Öhlins to our Group as a great opportunity to expand our offerings for the automotive market. With this addition, we take another step forward in our strategy to provide integrated intelligent solutions to our customers, leveraging synergies across key technologies in the vehicle’s corner.”
Tom Wittenschlaeger, CEO of Ohlins Racing, expressed enthusiasm about the merger, stating, “As we join forces with Brembo, we are excited to unlock new growth opportunities and leverage our respective strengths and assets to drive innovation and deliver even greater value to our customers and employees.”
This acquisition signals Brembo’s commitment to enhancing its product offerings and expanding its presence in the automotive market, positioning both companies for future growth and innovation in motorsports and beyond.
