Zhang Peimian Aims to Send Sam-A Gaiyanghadao into Retirement with Victory at ONE 169

Chinese kickboxing prodigy Zhang Peimian is determined to secure a career-defining victory at ONE 169 on Friday, November 8, in Bangkok, Thailand. The 21-year-old will face former two-sport, two-division ONE World Champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao in a high-stakes strawweight kickboxing bout at Lumpinee Stadium.

For Zhang, this fight is not only an opportunity to defeat one of the sport’s most decorated athletes but also a step closer to a second shot at the ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Title. Sam-A, 20 years older than Zhang, has fought in over 400 career bouts and ranks among the greatest strikers in combat sports history, holding the ONE Strawweight Muay Thai and Kickboxing World Titles, along with the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Title.

Despite Sam-A’s immense accomplishments, Zhang remains unintimidated. When asked about facing the Thai legend, Zhang confidently stated, “I’m never afraid of the fight, and it’s just a fight.”

Known for his explosive, high-volume style, Zhang believes his superior physicality and skill set will give him the edge over Sam-A. “His experience is vast, but I have more of an advantage in kickboxing,” Zhang explained. “His straight cross and knee strikes are well-known, but his physical abilities might be a weakness due to his age.”

While Zhang respects Sam-A’s career, he believes it’s time for the young fighters to rise. “He can retire now,” Zhang asserted, adding that his victory could signal the passing of the torch in the division.

Zhang’s goal is clear: to earn a shot at the World Title. He previously challenged for the belt in 2022, losing a close decision to Jonathan Di Bella. A win over Sam-A would reaffirm his readiness for another title opportunity.

“If I can win this fight, it will prove that I have the ability to challenge for the gold belt,” Zhang said. Currently, Prajanchai PK Saenchai holds the strawweight kickboxing title, but Zhang is open to facing Di Bella again, should a rematch arise.

With his eyes firmly set on gold, Zha-ng Peimian is ready to prove himself as one of the sport’s rising stars, beginning with his monumental clash against Sam-A this Friday at ONE 169.
