Jaime Munguia and Bruno Surace both weighed in at 169.1 pounds on Friday for their 10-round catchweight fight, set to take place on Saturday, December 14, at the Estadio Caliente in Tijuana, Mexico. The highly anticipated event will be broadcast live on ESPN+ at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

Weigh-In Results for Saturday’s Card:

  • Jaime Munguia: 169.1 lbs
  • Bruno Surace: 169.1 lbs
  • Alan Picasso: 125.9 lbs vs. Yehison Cuello: 124.6 lbs
  • Jorge Garcia Perez: 154.3 lbs vs. Kudratillo Abdukakhorov: 158.2 lbs
  • Sebastian Hernandez: 123.6 lbs vs. Sergio Martin Sosa: 123.2 lbs
  • Christian Islas Roldan: 130.7 lbs vs. Juan Anacona: 129.5 lbs

Munguia (44-1, 35 KOs), a former WBO junior middleweight champion, is eager to bounce back from his recent setback as he faces French fighter Surace (20-0-2, 4 KOs). Munguia aims to secure a dominant win in what many see as a significant step down from his previous fight against Erik Bazinyan in September. Given the quick turnaround, many believe Munguia’s promoters chose to avoid another high-level opponent, possibly to ensure a confidence-boosting victory.

In the co-main event, super bantamweight contender Alan Picasso (30-0-1, 16 KOs) will take on Yehison Cuello (13-2-1, 11 KOs) in a 10-round battle. Picasso weighed in at 125.9 lbs, while Cuello came in at 124.6 lbs.

Munguia’s Road to Redemption After First Career Loss

Munguia, who suffered his first professional loss to Canelo Alvarez on May 4, is looking to rebuild his career after the defeat. The boxing community had anticipated Munguia’s loss to Canelo for some time, as he had largely avoided elite-level competition before the fight. Fans have speculated that Munguia’s management was protecting him to set up a high-profile, high-revenue bout with Canelo.

Now, Munguia is focused on returning to the top, with his eye on a potential rematch with Canelo. To do so, he must prove himself against lower-tier fighters like Surace and Bazinyan, hoping to secure the #1 ranking in the division and a second chance at Canelo.

“I know he is a strong fighter who throws a lot of combinations. We’ve studied him, and I’m confident in the work we’ve done. I will walk away with my hand raised,” Munguia said.

When asked about the possibility of a knockout, he added, “If I knew in which round I could knock him out, I’d bet all my money on that. But it’s uncertain. What I can tell you is that I will be looking for the knockout.”

Munguia’s performance on Saturday will be crucial as he seeks to reassert himself as a top contender in middleweight division.
