Devin Haney is holding out for a substantial payday for his upcoming comeback fight, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn. Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) reportedly wants to receive compensation well beyond the typical amount for a tune-up fight, aiming for a level of payment usually reserved for high-profile matchups that captivate fans.
Hearn believes that Haney’s financial expectations may have aligned with what BLK Prime was prepared to offer him. Suggesting the promoter may be willing to meet Haney’s demand for a bigger purse. However, Hearn pointed out that these kinds of fights, usually meant to shake off ring rust and build confidence, generally do not command large sums of money.
“Devin still wants the kind of money paid for compelling fights the fans want to see,” Hearn explained. “But that’s unrealistic for a tune-up fight, which is usually against a lesser opponent meant to build him up.”
Hearn also speculated that Haney might not be in the best position for such a payday, citing the potential of a rematch with Ryan Garcia. He mentioned that if Haney were to take on a formidable opponent, such as Jaron Ennis or Richardson Hitchins, he could risk losing, especially given his recent struggles against Garcia.

Haney’s most recent bout, a controversial majority decision loss to Garcia on April 20th last year, saw the New York State Athletic Commission later overturn the result due to Garcia’s positive test for Ostarine. However, many still regard it as a loss, leaving Haney in a difficult position.
Despite this, Haney appears confident in his worth. “For the amount of money he wants to have a comeback fight, that’s not easy,” Hearn said. “But if BLK Prime is willing to pay, maybe that’s where we’ll see him.”
Haney himself has hinted at a March return, writing on social media, “March, I’m back.” BLK Prime confirmed the date, announcing, “See you on March 25 on BLK Prime.”
As the date approaches, it remains uncertain whether Haney will choose a lighter opponent or demand a higher-caliber challenge. Whatever the outcome, the situation adds intrigue to his potential rematch with Garcia.
