Sergio Perez faced a challenging weekend at the Imola Grand Prix, losing his runner-up position in the drivers’ championship to Charles Leclerc. Throughout the Italian weekend, Perez struggled to find the right set-up for his RB20, leading to a disappointing performance.
Despite failing to reach Q3 for the first time this season and finishing eighth in the race, Red Bull Team Principal remains optimistic. He considers Perez’s setback at Imola to be just a temporary blip rather than a significant concern.
Horner explained that their simulations had predicted a potential P7 finish for Perez in the race, assuming no external factors affected the outcome. However, a trip through the gravel cost him crucial time, limiting his performance.
While Perez’s future at Red Bull for the 2025 season remains uncertain, Horner emphasized the long-term perspective. He acknowledged the unfortunate timing of Perez’s setback but stressed that it’s just one race out of a 24-race calendar.

Regarding contract negotiations, Horner indicated that discussions with Perez are ongoing. While he described Perez as straightforward to deal with, he made it clear that finalizing any deal requires careful consideration and timing.
As Red Bull evaluates its options, including other potential drivers vying for Perez’s seat, Horner assured that decisions about the future will be made when the time is right for the team.
