F1 Secures New Deal with Monaco GP to Continue Through 2031

Formula 1 has announced that the Monaco Grand Prix will remain a staple of the calendar through to 2031, following the renewal of its contract. The iconic race, which has long been considered one of the crown jewels of the F1 season, was originally set to expire after the 2025 edition.

Despite ongoing concerns over Monaco’s ability to deliver thrilling racing due to its narrow and challenging layout, F1 and the Automobile Club of Monaco have reached an agreement to extend the race’s presence in the championship for another six years.

In addition to the contract extension, the Monaco Grand Prix will shift its traditional timing, moving from its longstanding late-May slot to the first weekend in June starting in 2026. This adjustment is designed to avoid a clash with the prestigious Indianapolis 500, another key event on the motorsport calendar.

Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, expressed his enthusiasm for the new deal, stating, “I’m delighted that Formula 1 will continue to race in Monaco until 2031. The streets of Monte Carlo are unique and a famous part of Formula 1, and the Monaco Grand Prix remains a race that all drivers dream of winning.”

He also thanked H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, Michel Boeri (President of the Automobile Club of Monaco), and all those involved in securing the extended partnership.

While Monaco is understood to have agreed to a significantly higher sanctioning fee to keep its place on the calendar, the race’s commercial prospects have been bolstered by F1’s recent deal with luxury conglomerate LVMH. Additionally, TAG Heuer will take over from Rolex as F1’s official timekeeper from next year, further aligning with Monaco’s long-standing relationship with the brand, which had previously raised concerns due to the overlap with Rolex’s own involvement.

The Monaco Grand Prix has been a fixture on the F1 calendar since the first World Championship season in 1950 and has been held annually in Monte Carlo since 1955. Despite the ongoing challenges posed by the tight confines of the 3.3-kilometer circuit, F1 has confirmed that no major layout changes are anticipated during the new contract period.

This new deal ensures that the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix will continue to captivate fans and drivers alike for many more years to come.
