Rasmus Højlund expressed confidence in Manchester United’s new style of play under manager Ruben Amorim, following his decisive double in the club’s 3-2 comeback win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday.
The Danish striker, 21, who has scored four goals since returning from a hamstring injury, said that the tactical changes under Amorim are well-suited to his playing style. “I think the new system suits my game,” Højlund told reporters after the match, his first victory under the new manager. “I’ve played this type of football before, not exactly the same, but somewhat similar to the 3-4-3 I used to play at Atalanta.”
Højlund, who made the move to Manchester United from Serie A’s Atalanta last year, swiftly acclimated to the Premier League, netting 10 goals in his first season. This year, he inherited the club’s iconic number nine shirt following Anthony Martial’s move to AEK Athens and has continued to impress.
“I’m still very young, but I want to take on more responsibility,” Højlund explained. “That’s why I took the number nine this year—to push myself to the next level.”
Højlund’s two goals against Bodo/Glimt marked an important milestone for both the player and the team, as they secured their first win under Amorim. With the striker now firmly entrenched in the starting lineup, United will be looking to build on this victory as they continue their campaign under the new manager.
