Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced a stunning performance in the opening match of the Under-19 Asia Cup, smashing a blistering 171 off just 95 balls against UAE Under-19s on Friday. The teenage batter fell agonisingly short of breaking Ambati Rayudu’s long-standing Indian youth one-day record of 177, set against England in 2002, but his knock still stood out as one of the finest in the tournament’s history.

Batting first after being put in, Suryavanshi dominated the UAE bowling attack with remarkable ease. Despite being just 14 years old, he showed composure and power well beyond his age, striking nine fours and 14 sixes. His innings came to an end in the 33rd over when he was bowled while attempting a paddle shot. Powered by his brilliance, India Under-19s posted a massive total of 433 for 6. UAE were later restricted to 199 for 7, handing India a commanding 234-run victory and earning Suryavanshi the Player of the Match award.
This performance adds to what has already been a breakthrough phase in Suryavanshi’s young career. Just last month, he smashed a 42-ball 144 against UAE at the Rising Stars Asia Cup in Doha, reaching his century in only 32 balls. That knock ranked among the fastest hundreds by an Indian in men’s T20 cricket.
Suryavanshi has also made headlines at the domestic level, becoming the youngest player to score a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with an unbeaten 108 off 61 balls. Earlier in 2025, he created history in the IPL by becoming the youngest player to score a century, blasting 101 off 38 balls for Rajasthan Royals. Since then, he has continued to impress on tours of England and Australia with the India Under-19 side, establishing himself as one of the brightest prospects in Indian cricket.
