Brook secures £470,000 contract after being retained for The Hundred

Harry Brook is set for a massive payday of nearly £500,000 in next year’s Hundred as teams rush to secure top players before the first-ever auction in March. Brook, currently on England’s mid-Ashes break in Noosa, has captained Northern Superchargers for two seasons and will stay with the rebranded Sunrisers Leeds on a deal worth around £470,000, potentially making him the tournament’s highest-paid player.

Despite serving a two-year IPL ban after withdrawing from his Delhi Capitals contract, Brook will still earn big through new private investment in the Hundred. The tournament has shifted from centralised ECB control to a joint-venture model with counties and private owners. Every team can pre-sign only four players, with limits on overseas and centrally-contracted signings, to maintain balance.

Top salaries in the men’s Hundred have almost quadrupled in two years, with the highest band rising from £125,000 to £200,000. Phil Salt is also in for a huge deal of around £450,000 after Welsh Fire beat rivals to sign him. Sunrisers have also secured Brydon Carse and Mitchell Marsh, while Welsh Fire are targeting Marco Jansen and Rachin Ravindra.

Other franchises have moved quickly too: Manchester Super Giants will keep Jos Buttler, Noor Ahmad and Heinrich Klaasen; Trent Rockets are lining up Joe Root and Ben Duckett; MI London expect to retain Sam Curran, Will Jacks and Rashid Khan. Southern Brave have re-signed Jofra Archer on a lucrative deal and added Jamie Smith, Marcus Stoinis and Tristan Stubbs.

In the women’s competition, major moves include Marizanne Kapp joining London Spirit, Meg Lanning signing for Manchester Super Giants, and Freya Kemp heading to Welsh Fire. Teams must finalise retentions by January 16 before the auctions in March, with the 2025 Hundred scheduled from July 21 to August 16.
