England 304/2; Salt’s 141* leads huge 146-run win

England produced a record-breaking display to crush South Africa by 146 runs and level the T20I series 1-1. Their total of 304 for 2 was not only their highest in the format but also the third-highest ever in T20 internationals. Phil Salt starred with a breathtaking 141* off 60 balls, smashing the fastest century by an English batter, reaching three figures in just 39 balls. He now holds the record for most T20I hundreds for England, with four, and also reclaimed the highest individual score by an English player. Jos Buttler supported with a blistering 83 off 36 deliveries as the pair dismantled South Africa’s bowling attack.

Power-Hitting Dominates the Innings

England’s dominance was defined by sheer power-hitting, with 30 fours and 18 sixes making up 228 of their runs. South Africa’s bowlers endured a nightmare outing as Kagiso Rabada (0 for 70), Marco Jansen (0 for 60) and Lizaad Williams (0 for 62) all recorded among the most expensive figures in T20I history. Their comeback from injury turned into one to forget, compounded by ill-discipline with eight wides and five no-balls, effectively gifting England two extra overs.

South Africa Falter in the Chase

Chasing 305 was always a daunting task, and while South Africa began positively with 50 in 3.3 overs, they quickly crumbled. Aiden Markram’s 41 off 20 balls was his best in 18 innings, but he lacked support. Bjorn Fortuin’s 32 from 16 balls was the next-best effort, underlining South Africa’s fragile middle order.

Archer and Curran Shine with the Ball

Jofra Archer, returning after being rested, made an immediate impact. He was involved in each of the first three dismissals, including a sharp catch to dismiss Ryan Rickelton and clever bowling to remove Pretorius. He later added Jansen’s wicket and finished with three dismissals and multiple catches in the field. Sam Curran also impressed with his variations, returning 2 for 11, while Will Jacks claimed 2 for 1 in his only over.

Series Set for Decider

The win was England’s biggest margin of victory in T20Is and sets up Sunday’s decider perfectly. For South Africa, it was a humbling night where their bowlers conceded more runs than ever before in this format. For England, Salt’s heroics and a ruthless batting effort ensured they head into the series finale with momentum firmly on their side.
