Amit Mishra retires from cricket

Veteran India legspinner Amit Mishra has officially announced his retirement from cricket, bringing an end to a distinguished career that spanned over two decades. The 42-year-old represented India in all formats between 2003 and 2017, finishing with 22 Tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20Is. His last competitive appearance came for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) during IPL 2024.

Mishra enjoyed a long and successful association with the Indian Premier League. He featured in the tournament almost every season from its inception in 2008 to 2024, missing only the 2022 edition. Over his IPL journey, he represented Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and LSG. Known for his guile and consistency, Mishra collected 174 wickets in 162 matches, placing him eighth on the all-time wicket-takers list.

In his retirement message on social media, Mishra reflected on his 25-year journey with heartfelt gratitude. “Today, after 25 years, I announce my retirement from cricket—a game that has been my first love, my teacher, and my greatest source of joy,” he wrote. He thanked the BCCI, Haryana Cricket Association, his coaches, teammates, and fans for their support throughout his career.

Mishra also acknowledged the sacrifices and struggles of his early days, cherishing the memories and lessons gained along the way. He expressed special gratitude to his family for their unwavering support during both the highs and lows of his career.

As he closes this chapter, Mishra highlighted his desire to give back to the sport that shaped him. “Cricket has given me everything, and now I look forward to contributing to the game that made me who I am,” he concluded.

With his retirement, Indian cricket bids farewell to one of its most consistent and respected legspinners.
