Hampshire’s 21-year-old fast bowler Sonny Baker has earned an England Men’s development contract from the ECB after his impressive performances for the England Lions.
Baker, who previously represented England at the Under-19 level, transitioned from Somerset to Hampshire during the winter. His selection for the England Lions tour of Australia marked a significant step in his career. He made his first-class debut in the final match against Australia A, delivering a strong performance with figures of 3 for 60. Baker also shone against a Cricket Australia XI, securing a match haul of 5 for 71, which further highlighted his potential.
England Lions head coach Andrew Flintoff was particularly impressed with Baker’s winter performances. Flintoff praised the young pacer’s energy, pride, and commitment on the field.
