Cricket fans in India will no longer enjoy free streaming of IPL matches, as JioStar introduces paid subscription plans. JioStar, a new platform formed after the merger of Viacom18 and Star India, combines JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar into JioHotstar. This platform promises an enhanced viewing experience with over 3 lakh hours of content but has ended the free live streaming available since 2023.
JioCinema had previously offered IPL matches for free after acquiring the digital rights for $3 billion in 2023. However, with JioStar’s new model, viewers will only get a few minutes of free access before needing a subscription. This shift has disappointed many fans who had grown accustomed to free IPL streaming. A source explained that the platform aims to build user loyalty with limited free content before prompting them to subscribe.
To continue watching IPL 2025, fans can choose from three subscription plans:
- Mobile-Only Plan: ₹149 for 3 months or ₹499 for a year. It allows single-device streaming on mobile in 720p resolution with stereo sound.
- Super Plan: ₹299 for 3 months or ₹899 for a year. This plan supports two devices (mobile, TV, or laptop) with Full HD (1080p) resolution and Dolby Atmos sound.
- Premium Plan: ₹499 for 3 months or ₹1,499 for a year. It offers streaming on up to four devices in Ultra HD 4K (2160p) with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
While the paid plans offer better quality and more features, fans must now pay for what was once free. The IPL 2025 season promises excitement on the field and a new streaming experience for viewers.
