Manchester United are in advanced negotiations with Lecce as they aim to secure the signing of defender Patrick Dorgu for a reported £30 million. The deal would mark United’s first major acquisition of the January transfer window, with talks progressing steadily this week.
Lecce president Saverio Sticchi Damiani had initially expressed reluctance to sell the 18-year-old, but Dorgu is eager for the clubs to reach an agreement. The highly-rated wing-back is seen as a crucial addition for United, especially with manager Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system demanding dynamic players in wide roles—an area where the Red Devils currently lack natural options.
Reports suggest that Lecce are holding out for £33 million, a figure United are close to matching with performance-related add-ons. Dorgu, whose contract with the Serie A side runs until 2029, is keen on a move to Old Trafford, making the deal increasingly likely.

If talks for Dorgu fall through, United have a contingency plan. The club is prepared to activate a £15 million buy-back clause for Benfica’s Alvaro Fernandez, a move they can pursue until 2026. Meanwhile, alternative targets like Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and PSG’s Nuno Mendes were considered but deemed financially unviable due to Amorim’s budget constraints.
So far, January has been dominated by potential departures rather than new arrivals at United. Financial Fair Play (FFP) pressures have forced the club to explore selling key players, with Alejandro Garnacho among those linked to a possible exit. The Argentine winger, who has drawn interest from Chelsea and Napoli, has faced criticism for his attitude but would still command a significant transfer fee.
As the transfer deadline approaches, United fans will be watching closely to see if the club can finalize the Dorgu deal and bolster their squad for the second half of the season.
