In a significant development for Indian cricket, star batter Virat Kohli is expected to join the Delhi team ahead of their Elite Group D Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra, scheduled for January 23 in Rajkot. Kohli, who has not played in the domestic tournament since 2012, could make a long-awaited return. Reports by Cricbuzz suggest the 35-year-old may feature in the squad, though his participation in the playing XI is yet to be confirmed.

Kohli’s return, even as a non-playing member, is anticipated to make an impact as he prepares to train with the team. This move mirrors Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s example of engaging with domestic cricket, highlighting the duo’s commitment to the game. Kohli has faced criticism over his recent form, and his involvement in Ranji cricket could serve as a platform to regain momentum ahead of upcoming international fixtures.

Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has confirmed his availability for the match and is set to lead the Delhi side. Pant’s inclusion bolsters Delhi’s chances in what promises to be an intense encounter. “Rishabh Pant has confirmed that he will be available for Delhi’s Ranji Trophy game against Saurashtra in Rajkot,” said DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma in a statement to The Indian Express.

Several other prominent Indian players, including Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, are also expected to feature in this year’s Ranji Trophy. Their participation underscores the growing importance of domestic cricket in bridging form and fitness ahead of international commitments.
