Edoardo Bove Set to Make Emotional Return to Fiorentina After Cardiac Arrest

Edoardo Bove will make an emotional return to Fiorentina on Monday evening, attending their Serie A clash against Udinese at the Estadio Artemio Franchi. The 22-year-old midfielder is recovering after he suffered a cardiac arrest during a match on December 1 against Inter Milan, which led to the referee abandoning the game.

Bove collapsed on the pitch in the first half of the match, and medical staff required to provide immediate attention. Medical staff rushed him to Careggi Hospital in Florence, where doctors placed him in intensive care and later fitted him with an implanted defibrillator. The young player, who is on loan from Roma, returned to Fiorentina’s training ground on December 14 to reconnect with his teammates, and his presence at the stadium for Monday’s match marks another significant step in his recovery.

“This is a very emotional moment for Edoardo and for all of us,” Fiorentina general manager Alessandro Ferrari said. “Edoardo is recovering well, and we’re happy with his progress. We need to continue being patient, but the fact that he’s improving is a great relief.”

It will be a touching moment for Bove, as the Estadio Artemio Franchi is where he tragically collapsed. The home fans are expected to give him a heartfelt reception as he continues his recovery journey.

While Bove is making significant strides, there is an ongoing challenge due to Serie A regulations. The league prohibits players with an implanted defibrillator from competing. This restriction could pose a potential problem for the young midfielder, as it did for Christian Eriksen, who was forced to leave Inter Milan after experiencing a cardiac incident during the 2021 European Championship.

Bove’s future with Fiorentina remains uncertain, and his agent, Diego Tavano, recently revealed how close Bove came to joining Nottingham Forest during the summer transfer window. Tavano said Roma initially wanted to sell Bove to Forest for €8 million, but after discussions, Fiorentina emerged as the better option for the player. Tavano explained, “I reassured Roma that I could find a better deal for everyone, and Fiorentina was the best solution. Edo always had a strong connection with Florence and its passionate supporters.”

Despite his move from Roma, Bove still holds a deep love for the club and had hoped to become an iconic figure there. “When I left, it was emotional,” Tavano recalled. “He emptied his locker, and we both cried all the way to the train station. But we knew it was the right decision for him, and he has always considered Florence a city full of passion.”

Bove’s journey back to full fitness remains a challenging one, but with the support of Fiorentina and his loved ones, he’s taking each step with optimism.
