After Kohli, Jadeja Faces Controversy with Australian Media Over His Choice of Language

Ahead of the MCG Test on December 26, Ravindra Jadeja has found himself in a controversy with Australian media. The issue arose after Jadeja interacted with the press following India’s practice session on December 21, where he reportedly ignored questions in English. Australian broadcaster Channel 7 accused Jadeja of refusing to answer in English, despite the presence of both Indian and local reporters. The channel claimed Jadeja mentioned he was late for the team bus and described the press conference as “strange.” They also pointed out that the team media manager had invited Australian reporters, but Jadeja spoke only in his native language, which left some reporters frustrated.

However, the controversy quickly escalated when Indian media came to Jadeja’s defense. They argued that the all-rounder had every right to speak in his native language, and the responsibility of translating his words lay with the foreign media. Some outlets, like Revsportz, highlighted that many international sports stars, including football legend Lionel Messi, struggle with English, yet are not criticized for using their native languages.

The situation echoes a previous controversy involving Virat Kohli and Channel 7. On India’s departure for Melbourne, Kohli had a heated exchange with a Channel 7 reporter, accusing the channel of filming his children without consent. Kohli voiced his displeasure, while the channel maintained they were within their rights, as it was a public space.

Both incidents have sparked debate over language barriers and media interactions, but Jadeja’s supporters argue that the focus should be on his performance rather than unnecessary controversies.
