Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bowl first in the second ODI against Afghanistan in Harare, following the washout of the series opener. The hosts handed a debut to fast bowler Tinotenda Maposa, with lead seamer Blessing Muzarabani missing out on the match. Afghanistan, on the other hand, kept the same playing XI that had featured in the first game.

Thursday’s weather in Harare was sunny, unlike the previous day, which saw rain disrupt play. The pitch had a bit of green, providing some assistance to the bowlers. The opening ODI had been heavily affected by rain, with only 9.2 overs possible, during which Zimbabwe were reduced to five wickets down. Azmatullah Omarzai had been the standout performer for Afghanistan in that brief period, taking four wickets with his swing and seam movement.
The Zimbabwean team for the second ODI is as follows: Ben Curran, Tadiwanashe Marumani (wk), Dion Myers, Craig Ervine (capt), Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, Brian Bennet, Newman Nyamhuri, Richard Ngarava, Tinotenda Maposa, and Trevor Gwandu. Afghanistan’s playing XI includes Sediqullah Atal, Abdul Malik, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi (capt), Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Ikram Alikhil (wk), Rashid Khan, AM Ghazanfar, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Naveed Zadran.
Zimbabwe’s decision to bowl first takes advantage of the favorable conditions, challenging Afghanistan’s batting lineup on a pitch offering movement for the bowlers.
