Enzo Maresca Lauds Chelsea’s ‘Unbelievable’ Spirit After Narrow Win Against Brentford

Enzo Maresca has lauded Chelsea’s “unbelievable” team spirit after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brentford at Stamford Bridge, extending their impressive winning streak to five consecutive Premier League matches.

Chelsea controlled the majority of the match, with Marc Cucurella’s header just before halftime putting them in front. However, the Bees mounted a late charge, testing Chelsea’s resolve. Despite Brentford’s efforts, including a goal from Bryan Mbuemo, Chelsea held on thanks to crucial saves from goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and a vital second goal from Nicolas Jackson in the 80th minute.

After the final whistle, Chelsea’s players walked around the pitch to thank the fans, while those who weren’t in the matchday squad showed their support from the tunnel. Enzo Maresca, clearly delighted with his team’s performance, expressed his satisfaction, particularly with the players’ hunger and desire to secure the win.

“I am very happy, very pleased, especially because we can see the fans are happy,” Maresca said. “The spirit they showed tonight has been unbelievable – the hunger and the desire to get three points. This is the right way.”

Chelsea dominated possession, holding nearly two-thirds of the ball and recording 26 shots compared to Brentford’s 9. Despite their control, Chelsea had to rely on Sanchez’s excellent shot-stopping to preserve the lead, especially in the final stages of the match.

Maresca also praised Sanchez’s consistent performances, citing his key saves in previous matches this season and his important role in the victory over Brentford. The Spaniard has been a regular starter under Maresca and has made significant contributions to Chelsea’s unbeaten run.

“We are happy with Robert,” Maresca added. “Sometimes when we say things, you struggle to believe us, but Robert is doing fantastic. Filip is doing the same in the Conference League. Two keepers who can compete and help us win games – that’s exactly what we want.”

Chelsea’s victory keeps them just two points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand, and four points ahead of third-place Arsenal. With their unbeaten run now stretching to ten matches in all competitions, the Blues are steadily building momentum under Maresca’s management.
