Abhishek Sharma Breaks Suryakumar Yadav’s Record for Most Sixes in a Year in T20s by an Asian Player

On December 5, 2024, Abhishek Sharma made history with a blistering 28-ball century for Punjab against Meghalaya, thus becoming the joint-fastest century scorer in T20 cricket history alongside Urvil Patel. Moreover, Sharma’s explosive knock of 106 off 29 balls included eight fours and eleven sixes, further showcasing his powerful hitting ability.

Sharma now holds the record with 87 sixes, two more than Yadav, who previously held the record with 85 sixes in 2022.

Globally, Nicholas Pooran leads the record for the most sixes in a calendar year in T20s, having hit an impressive 165 sixes in 2024. He is followed by Chris Gayle, who holds multiple records, including 135 sixes in 2015, 121 sixes in 2012, and 116 sixes in 2011.

With a few matches left in 2024, Abhishek Sharma could become the first Indian batter to smash 100 sixes in a calendar year in T20s, adding another remarkable achievement to his growing list of records.
