Joan Mir Criticizes “Unproductive” Honda MotoGP Test: “We Expected Much More”

Joan Mir expressed disappointment with Honda’s performance during the Barcelona MotoGP test, labeling it an “unproductive day” for both him and the team. Despite having a productive finish to the season with a new aero package that improved turning, Honda concluded its worst-ever season in MotoGP at the Solidarity Grand Prix, finishing last in the constructors’ championship with just 75 points.

Mir, who finished 15th after completing 67 laps in Barcelona, was disheartened by lack of new developments for the RC213V. “Not very happy. It wasn’t a productive day,” said Mir. “Everything we tried, we have tried before. We didn’t have any new upgrades that allowed us to be faster. We were working with our standard package and an old package that wasn’t working.”

The team’s post-season tests were supposed to be crucial for making progress, but Mir felt Honda had failed to introduce any significant updates. “The day was not what I expected. I just hope that next week in Jerez we will receive more upgrades,” he added.

Mir also questioned Honda’s efforts, revealing that reason no new items were available to test was down to timing issues. “This is what I thought, but the reality is that we expected much more,” he said. Honda explained that the new components were not ready due to timing constraints.

The 2020 MotoGP World Champion emphasized the importance of the post-season tests, particularly the ones after the Valencia and Barcelona rounds, as key opportunities for manufacturers to introduce new bikes or components. “Normally, these tests are where we see significant progress. We didn’t get that this time. I hope we get it soon,” Mir concluded.
