Maxwell and Pacers Guide Australia to 1-0 Lead in T20I Series

Glenn Maxwell’s explosive knock and a brilliant bowling display from Australia’s pacers led the hosts to a comprehensive 29-run victory over Pakistan in the first T20I at the Gabba, giving them a 1-0 series lead. The game was reduced to seven overs per side due to rain and lightning.

Australia posted a challenging total of 93/4, with Maxwell playing a key role. After an aggressive start by Jake Fraser-McGurk, Maxwell took charge with four boundaries off Naseem Shah and a reverse-swept six off Shaheen Afridi. Although Haris Rauf and Abbas Afridi picked wickets, Maxwell’s brilliance helped Australia reach a commanding total, supported by a late flurry from Marcus Stoinis.

In reply, Pakistan’s chase never gained momentum. Spencer Johnson and Xavier Bartlett made early breakthroughs, while Nathan Ellis destroyed Pakistan’s top order with three wickets. Pakistan found themselves at 16/5, and despite a couple of big hits from Abbas Afridi, they were all out for 64/9, handing Australia a convincing win.
