Munaf Patel Becomes Bowling Coach for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025

Delhi Capitals have appointed former Indian fast bowler Munaf Patel as their new bowling coach for IPL 2025. This move comes as the franchise undergoes significant changes ahead of the upcoming season and the IPL 2025 mega auction. Along with Patel, former cricketers Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao also joined the team in October, with Badani replacing Ricky Ponting as head coach and Rao taking over as the director of cricket.

Patel, a key member of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning squad, played 13 Tests, 70 ODIs, and 3 T20Is for the national team between 2006 and 2011. However, after struggling with repeated exclusions, he retired from international cricket in 2018. Despite this, his vast experience and insights will undoubtedly be crucial for the Capitals’ bowling unit as they look to strengthen their squad for IPL 2025.

In addition to the coaching changes, Delhi Capitals made some major decisions during the IPL 2025 retention window. On October 31, they announced the retention of only four players: Abhishek Porel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Axar Patel. The franchise made the tough decision to part ways with long-time captain and key player Rishabh Pant.

With a purse of Rs. 76.25 crores for the IPL 2025 mega auction, Delhi Capitals are poised to make significant additions to their squad. This will allow them to aim for a more balanced team under the new coaching leadership. Furthermore, the upcoming season will mark a fresh chapter for the franchise as they look to bounce back stronger and more competitive.
