Jake Hadley, once considered a rising star in the UFC’s flyweight division, has recently parted ways with the promotion following a series of mixed results. Despite showing potential early on, Hadley’s run in the UFC ended with a 3-4 record, capped by a recent loss to Cameron Smotherman. With his contract now expired, the team chose not to re-sign Hadley, prompting mixed reactions from fans and analysts. Some viewed the decision as justified, while others believe he deserved another shot.
At just 28, Hadley still has time on his side to rebuild and potentially make a return to the UFC. Following his departure, the British fighter took to social media to offer his perspective on the situation, addressing his final UFC bouts and the circumstances that led to his exit.
Hadley’s Perspective on His UFC Journey
In a series of tweets, Hadley explained that the promotion didn’t officially “cut” him but instead let his contract expire. He acknowledged taking significant risks in his last two fights, which ultimately worked against him. One key moment was his fight against “Block Head” (referring to a previous opponent) on short notice, during which he missed weight. This misstep was held against him.
Additionally, he took his most recent fight against Cameron Smotherman on just three days’ notice, after preparing for a different, wrestling-focused opponent. Hadley admitted the quick turnaround posed challenges but felt obligated to step up as a “company man” for the UFC, even fighting on the due date of his child’s birth. However, he expressed no regrets about his decisions, stating, “If I choose to work my way back to the UFC, I know I can do that again no problem.”
As Hadley reflects on his UFC journey, it’s clear he remains determined and optimistic about his future in MMA, whether it’s in the UFC or elsewhere.
