After Leaving SRH Before IPL 2025, Dale Steyn Becomes England Lions’ Bowling Consultant for a Short Term

Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn is set to join the England Lions as a short-term bowling consultant during their upcoming tour of South Africa. The tour, scheduled from November 20 to December 14, will focus on an intensive training camp aimed at sharpening the skills of England’s young fast bowlers. Steyn, renowned for his fiery pace and expertise, will provide valuable guidance to these emerging players. The highlight of the tour will be a four-day match against South Africa A in the Western Province, offering the players crucial match experience in challenging conditions.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) recently named a 19-member squad for the tour, including ten seam bowlers. Among them are Pat Brown and Josh Hull, both of whom have international experience, as well as rising talents like Dillon Pennington and John Turner. The tour is also significant as it marks Andrew Flintoff’s first assignment as head coach of the England Lions. Flintoff, a former England all-rounder, is keen on bringing in experienced figures like Steyn to enhance the development of the squad.

Steyn’s appointment follows his recent departure from Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he served as a bowling coach in the IPL since 2022. He opted out of the 2024 IPL season for personal reasons, marking the end of his tenure with the franchise. His new role with the England Lions fits his passion for mentoring young bowlers, and his involvement should play a key part in the team’s growth during the South Africa tour.
