Sage Northcutt and ONE Championship have officially parted ways, marking the end of Northcutt’s stint with the promotion. On Friday, ONE Championship announced that both parties mutually agreed to the release, wishing Northcutt well in his future endeavors. The organization made no additional comments on the details behind the decision.
Shortly after the announcement, Northcutt shared his thoughts on social media, expressing optimism for the future. “Excited for 2025 and looking forward to having some big fights!” he posted, signaling that his fighting career is far from over.
Northcutt, a former UFC prospect, joined ONE Championship in 2019 with much anticipation. However, He faced numerous challenges during his time in the promotion and fought only twice in the four years after signing. Cosmo Alexandre knocked out Northcutt in just 29 seconds, ending his debut in 2019 with a tough loss. Complications from COVID-19 caused the cancellation of his next scheduled bout against Shinya Aoki in 2021.
Northcutt finally returned to action in 2023, securing a victory over Ahmed Mujtaba with a first-round heel hook submission at ONE Fight Night 10. This win marked his first in ONE Championship and a much-needed return to form.
In early 2024, Northcutt was once again slated to face Aoki at ONE 165. However, Visa issues involving his cornermen forced the bout’s cancellation on fight day, reportedly creating some friction between Northcutt and the promotion.
Despite the challenges he faced during his time with ONE, Northcutt, at just 28 years old, remains a highly marketable free agent in the MMA world. With an overall record of 12-3, he could be a sought-after addition to other organizations as he looks to revitalize his career in 2025.
As North-cutt embarks on this new chapter, fans are eager to see where his journey will take him next and how he plans to capitalize on his talent and experience in the years to come.
