Barcelona is reportedly eyeing a bold move for Atletico Madrid’s left-back, Reinildo Mandava, as the club prepares for the future, according to Mundo Deportivo. With several players’ contracts set to expire in 2026, Barcelona is taking a proactive approach to strengthen its squad, anticipating potential departures.
One of the club’s primary focuses is reinforcing the left-back position, where Alejandro Balde currently has limited competition, with Gerard Martin serving as the only viable alternative. This lack of depth has prompted Barcelona to consider Mandava, who brings valuable La Liga experience after spending four successful years at Atletico Madrid.
Mandava, 30, has a contract that runs until 2025, making him an appealing target for Barcelona, especially as they seek to enhance their defensive lineup without incurring hefty transfer fees. His blend of experience and skill would provide the team with a reliable option on the left flank.
In addition to Mandava, Barcelona is also considering the possibility of signing Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich. However, acquiring Davies presents a greater challenge due to intense competition from clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United, both of whom are also keen on the Canadian international.

If Barcelona decides to pursue a new left-back, it could cast doubt on Martin’s future at the club. Despite the trust placed in him by manager Hansi Flick, it appears the coaching staff is leaning toward bringing in a more seasoned player to bolster depth and competition for Balde.
As Barcelona continues to evaluate its options, the coming months will provide clarity on their plans for the left-back position, with both Reinildo Mandava and Alphonso Davies emerging as potential candidates to strengthen the team’s defensive ranks.
