Preston North End striker Miloš Osmajic received an eight-game suspension for biting an opponent during a recent match, along with a £15,000 fine. The 25-year-old Montenegro international admitted to the charge of violent conduct, which took place in the aftermath of a goalless Lancashire derby against Blackburn Rovers.
The incident unfolded after the referee sent off Blackburn’s Joe Rothwell in the dying minutes for kicking out at Preston’s Duane Holmes. As a consequence of the ban, the suspension will sideline Osmajic until Preston’s home Championship match against Derby County on November 23.
The Football Association (FA) has announced that it will provide written reasons for the suspension “in due course.” In the meantime, Preston has chosen to refrain from making further comments until the FA releases its statement.
Prior to the official announcement of the ban, Preston director Peter Risdale discussed the situation with Talksport, confirming that Osmajic had accepted the charge and would undergo an internal disciplinary process. “We’ve already indicated to the player what we’re doing,” Risdale stated. “I want to keep that obviously in-house, but you can be assured that that’s not something that we condone as a football club, and we’ve taken appropriate action.”
Osmajic joined Preston from Cadiz in September 2023 and has had a notable start to the season, netting five goals in 11 appearances, including two in a recent 3-0 victory over Watford. The club will now have to navigate the upcoming fixtures without one of their key attacking players during his suspension.
