Barely 24 hours after claiming his 300th Test wicket, Ravindra Jadeja triggered a collapse that saw Bangladesh bowled out for 146, setting India a modest target of 95 for a series sweep. Resuming the final day at 26 for 2, Bangladesh had hopes of mounting a challenge, particularly when Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shadman Islam built a 55-run partnership. However, Jadeja’s triple-strike turned the game in India’s favor as Bangladesh crumbled from 91 for 3 to 94 for 7.
Jadeja’s breakthrough came when he bowled Shanto with his second ball of the day, followed by Akash Deep removing the well-set Shadman at gully after his fighting 50. Jadeja then dismissed Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan cheaply, leaving Bangladesh in tatters.
Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin also contributed with three wickets each. Ashwin struck early, removing Mominul Haque, who fell to a sweep shot that went straight to leg slip. Shadman briefly counterattacked Ashwin with a flurry of boundaries, but Bangladesh’s momentum was short-lived as India’s bowlers tightened their grip.
Despite Mushfiqur Rahim’s best efforts to stretch Bangladesh’s lead, the lack of support from the tail left them vulnerable. Bumrah, returning for a fresh spell, ended the resistance by dismissing Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam. Mushfiqur’s attempt to farm the strike helped extend the innings, but a mistimed swing off Bumrah’s slow off-cutter ended the innings just before lunch.
India needed just 95 runs to secure a comfortable win and complete a series sweep. Jadeja, Bumrah, and Ashwin’s combined efforts put them in a strong position to achieve this target.
