Marc Marquez Reflects on a Successful Season as He Prepares for Final Races and a New Chapter

Despite trailing MotoGP title leader Jorge Martin by 53 points and future teammate Francesco Bagnaia by 46 points, Marc Marquez remains upbeat about his 2024 season. With seven races and up to 259 points still up for grabs, Marquez’s recent performances—including wins in the last two Grands Prix—demonstrate his ongoing competitive spirit. However, he is already content with what he has achieved this year.

Marquez, currently competing in his final season with Gresini Racing before joining Ducati’s factory team in 2025, has set high standards for himself. Reflecting on his progress, Marquez stated, “We are riding better than in previous races, especially since the Red Bull Ring, where we made significant improvements. Despite not being as fast as Martin and Bagnaia, I need to enhance certain areas.”

He emphasized that his primary goal for this season has been met: “For me, the most important thing is that I’ve achieved all of my targets for this year. If a title opportunity arises, it is welcome, but my focus is on enjoying the remaining races and maintaining this level to prepare for 2025.”

At the recent San Marino GP, Marquez demonstrated his prowess by setting a new lap record on a medium rear tire, capitalizing on a brief rain shower to rise from ninth on the grid. Looking ahead to this weekend’s Emilia Romagna round at Misano, Marquez is optimistic but cautious: “One of the most important aspects will be practice, as we need to adapt to the colder conditions of the circuit. Last Sunday’s performance was particularly strong, especially in the latter part of the race, which gave me confidence.”

Marquez’s preparation for the remainder of the season includes fine-tuning his strategies and understanding the track conditions better. “Let’s see if we can continue in the same way,” he said.

Currently riding a year-old Ducati GP23, Marquez will transition to the latest Ducati machinery as a factory rider alongside Bagnaia next year, signaling an exciting new chapter in his career.
