The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has faced challenging months recently, with both the board and the national team under pressure. In response, the PCB has announced a comprehensive review of international and domestic cricket to restore the pride and excellence of Pakistan cricket.

This initiative will begin with a “connection camp” in Lahore on September 23, where key figures in Pakistan cricket will gather. The camp will feature head coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie, along with PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Pakistan’s international captains, Babar Azam and Shan Masood, will also be present. The camp’s primary goal is to reshape Pakistan’s cricket strategy, starting at the grassroots level, with a long-term vision to reverse recent underperformance on the international stage.
The concept for the camp came directly from PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who will play a critical role in overseeing the new strategy’s development and implementation. The camp is not intended to address short-term issues, such as changes to the national team’s captaincy or squad selection for upcoming series. Instead, it focuses on a broader, more ambitious review of Pakistan cricket as a whole.
Despite recent media speculation suggesting potential captaincy changes, a PCB source confirmed that there are no immediate plans to replace Babar Azam or Shan Masood as captains. The source explained that the PCB chairman has entrusted the decision on captaincy to the head coaches and selectors. Both Kirsten and Gillespie have expressed their support for continuity in leadership, emphasizing that Babar and Shan need more time to prove their leadership abilities.
The connection camp marks a key moment in the PCB’s efforts to rebuild and rebrand Pakistan cricket, signaling a new direction for the team’s future.
