Aston Martin’s ambitious reconstruction of its state-of-the-art Technology Campus at Silverstone is entering its final stages, with project manager Guy Austin confirming that the last two buildings are nearing completion. This major expansion marks a pivotal moment for the team as they prepare to elevate their Formula 1 operations with cutting-edge facilities.
The first phase of the Aston Martin Campus completed last July, allowing several departments to become fully operational in time for the 2023 British Grand Prix. The initial building, one of three purpose-built structures at the new headquarters, spans 37,000 square meters (400,000 square feet) and serves as the first entirely new F1 team base in nearly two decades. It houses Aston Martin’s design office, engineering, production, commercial, and manufacturing areas, supporting a workforce of over 700 employees.
With Building One now fully functional, construction efforts have shifted towards Buildings Two and Three. According to Austin, these structures are nearly ready to open, bringing crucial new capabilities to the team.
Advanced Facilities for Performance and Innovation
Building Two will serve as a hub of activity, featuring a range of amenities including a new driver simulator, a restaurant, a fitness center, and a versatile event space. The design of this building aims to enhance the performance of Aston Martin’s F1 team and showcase the company’s technological prowess. A creative studio will allow the team to produce in-house media content, eliminating the need for external resources.
“A key highlight is the new driver simulator, which is crucial for refining our race strategies and car development,” said Austin. “The simulator is supported by a control room, similar to our mission control room in Building One and our future control room in Building Three.”
Additionally, Building Two will feature a spacious dining area, with large windows bringing in natural light, and a covered outdoor loggia for staff to enjoy meals al fresco. A fitness center complete with a treatment room and a studio for spinning, yoga, and other classes will also be available to team members.
Wind Tunnel and Model Shops in Building Three
Building Three, the final piece of the Technology Campus, will house a state-of-the-art wind tunnel, which is critical for testing and refining car aerodynamics. Although construction is ongoing, the team has already delivered the wind tunnel’s components, positioning Aston Martin to quickly establish the facility once the building is ready.
Austin explained, “We have fully equipped and ready-for-operation model shops in Building Three.” “All necessary utilities, including compressed air, vacuum systems, and power, are already commissioned, ensuring a seamless transition once the building is completed.”
Streamlined Logistics for Global Operations
The new campus also meets the logistical demands of modern Formula 1, which has evolved into a truly global sport. Aston Martin has integrated advanced facilities for managing equipment used in flyaway races, including dedicated storage for aircraft containers and a custom-built pit with a lift to facilitate the easy loading and unloading of gear.
“Formula 1 has grown far beyond its European roots,” said Austin. “Our new facilities will ensure that we can efficiently manage the equipment needed for races around the world, optimizing both storage and transport.”
A Bright Future for Aston Martin
With Buildings Two and Three set to become fully operational soon, Aston Martin’s Technology Campus represents a significant leap forward for the team. The advanced facilities not only aim to boost performance on the track but also reflect Aston Martin’s commitment to innovation and excellence. As the Silverstone-based team continues its push towards the front of the F1 grid, the completion of this modern campus marks a key milestone in its journey.
