The India-England Test series in early 2024 was a thrilling contest, with both teams adopting an aggressive style of play. India emerged victorious with a 4-1 series win, largely thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 712 runs. His attacking batting nullified England’s much-hyped “Bazball” approach.

During the third Test in Rajkot, England opener Ben Duckett made a controversial remark, suggesting that England deserved credit for making other teams play aggressively in Test cricket. The comment sparked backlash from fans and drew criticism from former England cricketers like Nasser Hussain and Michael Vaughan.
Duckett has since defended his remarks, explaining in an interview with the Daily Mail that he was actually complimenting Jaiswal. Duckett emphasized that he had called Jaiswal a world-class player, but this part of his statement was overlooked. “It was actually me paying him a nice compliment. I’m pretty sure I said he was a world-class player, but no one spoke about that,” Duckett explained. He also admitted that, in hindsight, he might not have made the comment during the fifth Test, recognizing Jaiswal’s consistent brilliance throughout the series.
Duckett has been a key figure in England’s success during the “Bazball” era with his aggressive top-order batting. As England prepares for their upcoming series against Sri Lanka, Duckett will be looking to continue his impactful performances. The series begins on August 21 at Old Trafford in Manchester.
