Scott McTominay Transfer Stance Indicates Uncertainty Over Manuel Ugarte Move to Manchester United

Manchester United’s decision to reject reduced offers for Scott McTominay suggests that their pursuit of Manuel Ugarte may be uncertain or even abandoned.

The Red Devils have been active in reshaping their midfield and had considered selling McTominay, who had a standout season last year. Despite interest from Fulham, who have made two bids, the highest being £20 million, United have held firm on their valuation. Fulham is now exploring other targets, according to Sky Sports.

A sale of McTominay could have facilitated a move for Ugarte, but Manchester United’s decision to keep the Scottish midfielder might signal a halt to their pursuit of the PSG player. Ugarte, who was signed by Paris Saint-Germain last summer from Sporting Lisbon for just over £50 million, may be priced out of United’s budget if they retain McTominay or have accepted a setback in negotiations.

PSG’s recent acquisition of Joao Neves from Benfica for up to £60 million could further limit Ugarte’s playing time, which might prompt PSG to consider offers if they can recoup a profit.

Manchester United might need to explore other midfield options if they are unable to secure Ugarte. Casemiro’s potential departure has proven difficult to finalize, while Kobbie Mainoo’s rise has established him as a key starter.

United manager Erik ten Hag has expressed a strong desire to keep McTominay, highlighting his importance to the squad. Ten Hag noted, “Other clubs will always show interest in our very good players.” “But we want to keep him because he is a very important player for our squad. His ability to play in various roles, including an advanced position, makes him a valuable asset to our team.”
