Matheesha Pathirana Injured; Mohamed Shiraz Joins Sri Lanka Squad for India ODIs

Sri Lanka has added fast bowler Mohamed Shiraz to their squad for the upcoming ODI series against India, replacing the injured Matheesha Pathirana. Consequently, the ODI series will begin on August 2 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Matheesha Pathirana Injured; Mohamed Shiraz Joins Sri Lanka Squad for India ODIs

Shiraz, who is yet to make his international debut, is currently competing in the Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament for Burgher Recreation Club. Recently, he achieved career-best List A figures of 6-21, dismantling the Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club. With 47 List A games to his name, Shiraz has taken 80 wickets at an impressive average of 17.52. Additionally, he has played 49 first-class matches and 23 T20s in Sri Lanka’s domestic circuit.

The addition of Shiraz comes as a significant move for the Sri Lankan team, which is seeking to bolster its squad after Pathirana’s injury. Pathirana, who was Sri Lanka’s leading wicket-taker in their recent T20I series loss to India, has been a crucial player for the team.

The first ODI of the three-match series will be held at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium on August 2, with the following matches scheduled for August 4 and August 7 at the same venue. This series follows Sri Lanka’s recent 0-3 defeat in the T20I series against India at the Pallekele International Stadium. Consequently, the team will be looking to bounce back and perform better in the upcoming ODIs.
