Transfer Roundup: Nico Williams Stays, Gallagher to Madrid, and Jorgensen Joins Chelsea

Chelsea have been one of the Premier League’s busiest clubs this transfer window, and they’re not done yet. Todd Boehly is keen to give new boss Enzo Maresca every chance to improve on last season’s sixth-placed finish. Having already brought in six new players, including Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester for £30 million.

Boehly and his Blues have also focused on youth, with new-signings like Spanish forward Marc Guiu, 18, impressing in pre-season. And youngsters Renato Veiga and Omari Kellyman arriving for sizable fees.

Nico Williams Decides to Stay

According to Marca, 21-year-old starlet Nico Williams has decided to remain with Athletic Club for one more season before any big-money move. Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool were all linked with the standout player of Euro 2024. As were Barcelona, but the trickster won’t be moving this summer.

Boehly's

Williams, who scored in the final against England and contributed 27 goals last season in La Liga, has a £49 million release clause in his current deal. He would have been a much-needed addition to Chelsea’s wide attacking options but looks set on another 12 months in the Basque Country.

Gallagher to Madrid?

Conor Gallagher has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Atletico Madrid now showing interest. Talks are underway, and a fee of around £35 million plus add-ons is being discussed. Gallagher, who is in the final year of his Chelsea deal, has also been linked with Tottenham and Aston Villa.

His departure could raise funds and free up his salary from Chelsea’s wage bill, allowing Boehly to pursue further additions. Gallagher would likely see more playing time in Spain, as Dewsbury-Hall, Moises Caicedo, and Enzo Fernandez are ahead of him in Maresca’s pecking order.

New Goalkeeper Signing

Despite Dorde Petrovic and Robert Sanchez competing to be Maresca’s No. 1, Villareal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is set to arrive at Stamford Bridge. The 22-year-old Swede has reportedly completed his Chelsea medical and will cost £20.7 million. Jorgensen had a breakthrough season in La Liga last year. Becoming Villareal’s first-choice shot-stopper and making the most saves in the league with 143.

Boehly's

Jorgensen will arrive in west London with hopes of becoming the first-choice goalkeeper, and it will be up to Maresca to decide who will start in goal for the first league game against Manchester City.

Potential Blockbuster Striker Move

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has been linked with a potential move to Chelsea this summer. The two clubs are in discussions about Romelu Lukaku’s move to Naples, with suggestions that Osimhen could go the other way. According to The Athletic, Osimhen could potentially join-on loan in a deal that would see Lukaku move to Italy permanently.

Osimhen has also drawn interest from PSG, who are considered the only club that could afford the near-£100 million-rated striker. However, a loan option could give Maresca one of Europe’s deadliest finishers without a permanent transfer this window.

As Chelsea continue to refine their squad, fans can expect more developments before the transfer window closes.
