Jorge Martin Reflects on Ducati Departure and Future with Aprilia: ‘It’s a Shame’ but Hints at Possible Return

Jorge Martin will be leaving Ducati at the end of the 2024 MotoGP season to join Aprilia, alongside Marco Bezzecchi. As he heads into the British MotoGP at Silverstone, Martin is keen to rebound from a recent mishap in Germany. Where he crashed while leading the race.

Currently just ten points behind the championship leader, Martin’s crash on the penultimate lap. While he was in the lead, cost him a critical opportunity to gain ground on Francesco Bagnaia. Despite this setback, Martin remains optimistic and determined as he prepares for the upcoming race.

Reflecting on his time with Ducati and Pramac, Martin shared his mixed feelings about leaving the team. At the World Ducati Week (WDW) in Misano, he expressed a sense of nostalgia and disappointment, saying, “It was a great story with Ducati and Pramac. We haven’t come full circle yet, but I think it’s been years of development of the bike and the team. We’ve grown together.”

Martin noted the significant progress Ducati has made since he joined, recalling that the bike was not as competitive when he first arrived. “When I came, Ducati wasn’t the best bike and hadn’t won a title yet. But with Pecco, Enea, and me, I think the project has grown. It’s a shame I can’t stay, but I’m happy to be here. This may not be my last WDW; maybe I will come back in the future,” he hinted.

At the Ducati Race of Champions, Martin finished ninth, while his MotoGP title rivals Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez secured first and third place, respectively. Despite never having won at Silverstone in MotoGP, Martin is focused on making most of his remaining time with Ducati.

“I think that even in Germany, when my contract with Aprilia was already clear, I was very strong, maybe more than anyone else,” Martin said. “I made a mistake, but I have to learn from it. The important thing is to be at a high level, and I feel good now. I don’t have to do anything special; I’m in perfect shape and that’s enough to finish the races.”

Looking ahead, Martin believes he has made significant progress since the end of last season and is determined to stay competitive throughout the remainder of the year.
