Adam Morgan, a former Liverpool young talent once praised by club legend Robbie Fowler for his finishing ability, has returned to his roots by signing with eighth-tier non-league side City of Liverpool FC.
The 30-year-old striker, who initially broke through under Brendan Rodgers in 2012, has had a journeyman career since leaving Anfield, including spells at clubs like Accrington Stanley and Yeovil Town, as well as non-league sides. His return home in 2022 saw him briefly with Halewood Apollo.
Despite only scoring one senior goal for Liverpool, a memorable pre-season strike against Toronto FC, Morgan garnered praise from Fowler, who hailed him as one of the club’s best finishers during his time in the academy ranks. Fowler noted Morgan’s composed left-footed finishing and ability to stay calm in front of goal, qualities that impressed him during training sessions.
Part of the same generation as Raheem Sterling, Morgan joined Liverpool’s academy in 2002 and made a significant impact, scoring 18 goals in 16 appearances for the academy team, which earned him opportunities with the first team during pre-season tours.
Reflecting on Morgan’s potential, Fowler said, “As a goalscorer, I think he’s fantastic. He possesses a strong left foot and exhibits excellent finishing skills. He is composed in front of the goal and Rushie would tell you as well, if you are composed and patient in front of the goal then you will have a chance.”

Despite early promise, Morgan struggled to establish himself in Liverpool’s senior squad, making his competitive debut in a Europa League qualifier against Hearts in 2012. He later had loan spells and eventual moves to other clubs, experiencing various levels of English football and even a stint in Ireland with Sligo Rovers in 2018.
Now, Morgan joins City of Liverpool FC, a club founded in 2015 known for its purple home strip and nicknamed “The Purps,” blending elements of Liverpool red and Everton blue in its identity. This move marks a new chapter for Morgan in the lower tiers of English football, where he aims to contribute with his goal-scoring prowess once again.
