Brett Lee says Gautam Gambhir’s aggressive and winning mindset will benefit India

Gautam Gambhir is set to begin his tenure as the head coach of the Indian cricket team in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. Known for his success as a mentor with Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, this marks Gambhir’s first coaching role. Brett Lee, the former Australia cricketer, praised Gambhir’s aggressive and winning mindset, furthermore highlighting his success in various roles.

Gambhir has excelled in every opportunity, with notable performances in the 2007 T20 World Cup final and the 2011 ODI World Cup. As a captain, he led KKR to victory in the IPL in 2012 and 2014. Recently, as a mentor, he helped LSG reach the playoffs in 2022 and 2023, and KKR win the title in 2024. Brett Lee emphasized Gambhir’s ability to build a strong team structure and his proven recipe for success, assuring that India is in safe hands. He also congratulated Rahul Dravid on his successful stint, which saw India reach the finals of the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup, and win the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has yet to finalize Gambhir’s support staff. Abhishek Nayar is a strong candidate for the batting coach position, and Morne Morkel, Lakshmipathy Balaji, and Zaheer Khan are contenders for the bowling coach role.
