UEFA’s team of technical observers has awarded Spain’s midfield maestro Rodri the prestigious title of UEFA EURO 2024 Player of the Tournament.
Rodri’s pivotal role in Spain’s campaign was high lighted by his consistent performances throughout the tournament, where he started all but one of La Roja’s matches. His partnership with Fabián Ruiz in midfield proved instrumental, anchoring the team and contributing crucially, including scoring in their 4-1 victory over Georgia in the round of 16.
Reflecting on his achievement, Rodri expressed his elation: “This is probably the best day of my career. We are European champions, and that is no small feat. We’ve made history, defeating four former world champions along the way. It speaks volumes about our team’s mentality.”
The selection process for the award involved UEFA’s technical observers meticulously analyzing each match from a coaching perspective, evaluating individual performances, impact on the team, and the players’ attitude and respect towards their opponents.
Rodri joins an illustrious list of past winners, including Matthias Sammer, Zinédine Zidane, and Xavi Hernández, cementing his place in football history with this prestigious accolade.
UEFA’s technical observers at EURO 2024 included renowned figures such as Fabio Capello, Rafael Benítez, and Ole Gunnar Solskjær, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of the tournaments top performers.
