The transfer activity at Manchester United is in full swing as the club gears up for the 2024-25 Premier League season. With a portion of the squad back in pre-season training and manager Erik ten Hag recently extending his contract, the club is also witnessing significant changes in the coaching staff. Former assistant coaches Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy have left the club, replaced by ex-United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake, who previously managed Eredivisie side Go Ahead Eagles.
However, the primary focus remains on new arrivals on the pitch. Here’s the latest transfer news from Old Trafford:
Zirkzee Scheduled for Medical
Joshua Zirkzee is set to undergo a medical at Manchester United on Friday, according to The Athletic. United have agreed to a £36 million deal with Bologna for the 23-year-old striker, opting to pay more than his release clause to spread the payments over three years. Zirkzee, who rose through the ranks at Bayern Munich, will sign a contract running until 2029, marking the first signing of the INEOS era for United.

Van de Beek Completes Move to Girona
Donny van de Beek has finalized a permanent move to Spanish side Girona, concluding his four-year stint at Manchester United. Girona, who finished third in La Liga last season, will pay an initial €500,000 (£421,000) fee, potentially rising to €9.1 million (£7.7 million). Van de Beek, who spent part of the last season on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt, leaves United with a negotiated sell-on clause, having originally joined the club for £40 million in 2020.
United Exit Neves Race and Eye PSG’s Ugarte
Manchester United has withdrawn from the race to sign Benfica wonderkid Joao Neves, shifting their focus to Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte. Portuguese outlet O Jogo reports that after PSG made a £76 million offer for Neves, United decided not to match the bid. If PSG secures Neves, they might consider offloading Ugarte. The 23-year-old Uruguayan, who joined PSG from Sporting Lisbon last year and made 37 appearances under Luis Enrique, now faces an uncertain future.
With these moves, Manchester United continues to shape its squad for the upcoming season, balancing departures with strategic signings. Fans eagerly await the impact of these changes as the club aims to build a competitive team under Ten Hag’s leadership.
