Manchester United target Manuel Ugarte faces an imminent departure from Paris Saint-Germain following his exclusion from the starting lineup after a disappointing performance against Newcastle United in the Champions League.
Manuel Ugarte has emerged as a prime target for Manchester United, drawing significant interest after his standout performances for Uruguay in the Copa America.
Initially sought after by multiple English clubs in 2023, Ugarte’s anticipated move to Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino fell through, leading him to join French champions Paris Saint-Germain instead.
However, following PSG’s 4-1 defeat to Newcastle, where Ugarte was substituted after 64 minutes, it appears certain that he will leave this summer, with Manchester United emerging as a likely destination.
Ugarte’s agent confirmed the likelihood of his departure from PSG, stating to O Jogo: “There are many possibilities on the table. It’s almost certain that he won’t stay, it’s sure he’ll leave. I believe the situation will resolve itself.

Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit assessed Ugarte’s potential fit at Manchester United, endorsing him as a strong addition: “Manuel Ugarte would be a great signing for Manchester United. He’s mentally and physically strong, ready to adapt to the Premier League. He could play a crucial role as a holding midfielder, addressing United’s defensive weaknesses.”
With defensive stalwarts like Raphael Varane departing and potential exits for players like Casemiro and Sofyan Amrabat looming, Manchester United is keen to bolster their midfield with Ugarte, who has also attracted interest from rivals Liverpool.
As negotiations progress, United aims to secure Ugarte’s signature to strengthen their defensive midfield capabilities ahead of the upcoming season.
