Rivals Praise Francesco Bagnaia’s Masterclass at Assen

Francesco Bagnaia showcased his dominance at Assen, further intensifying the MotoGP title race against Jorge Martin by leading every lap in both the sprint and the grand prix.

Bagnaia’s near-flawless weekend saw him top almost every session, with the warm-up being the only exception. As the championship heads to Sachsenring for the German MotoGP, Bagnaia holds a slender 10-point lead over Martin, emphasizing that his performance at Assen was more than just a victory.

Having secured five wins in the last six races, including sprints, Bagnaia is displaying a consistent peak in form reminiscent of his 2022 season. This impressive run has caught the attention of his competitors.

Fabio Quartararo, who experienced a dramatic title loss to Bagnaia in 2022 despite holding a 91-point mid-season lead, was full of praise: “He’s impressive. What can you say? He’s won the Sprint and race in the last two GPs. He’s clearly the man to beat. Once you start winning, your confidence soars, and you feel unbeatable. It’s a feeling every rider desires, and right now, he has it. He’ll be a top contender for a long time.”

Marc Marquez, another formidable competitor, acknowledged Bagnaia’s superior pace. Despite Marquez’s efforts, he couldn’t match Bagnaia’s speed but remains hopeful about challenging Bagnaia and Martin.

“Bagnaia was super fast, but Jorge was also extremely fast,” Marquez noted. “Since Montmelo, they have been riding incredibly well. Let’s see if we can get closer. It will be difficult, but my target is always to fight for those top three positions.”

With rivals recognizing his prowess, Bagnaia’s exceptional form continues to shape the 2024 MotoGP season, making him the rider to watch as the competition progresses.
